What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic therapy developed from psychoanalysis, encompassing the biggest gains of that rich tradition whilst updating it for the way that people live and seek help now. It is a compassionate, trauma-informed and collaborative process – the emphasis is on helping you develop greater self-awareness and emotional resilience that will sustain meaningful change long beyond the therapy ends.

How does it work?

Each week, you will bring the thoughts, feelings and experiences that feel live to you, and that you want to work through in a compassionate and supportive setting. Our sessions will be conversational and interactive, with space for you to speak freely while I listen carefully and reflect with you. We will talk about what arises, aiming to connect with deeply felt emotions and gain valuable insight.

Emotional re-experience of painful early material can be a powerful trigger of change, but it can also make us vulnerable. That is why it is beneficial to experience it in the presence of a compassionate other who is trained respond sensitively. I approach this task with empathy, care, and humanity.
